Surprise baby shower!

Today was a bbq, or supposed to be, at my Aunt Judy's house. Ed went to the ball game with work, so Lex and I met up with my sister to go see family. I packed sidewalk chalk and squirt guns, thinking we'd be outside.

When we pulled up, there were balloons on the mailbox. Lex asked if it was a party and I said, well, maybe they just wanted balloons up or something. I didn't really think anything of it.

Uncle George opens the door and said that everyone said it's too hot and that we were all eating downstairs. I asked about the food and Steff said, oh, downstairs. That was my first clue-she kind of slipped up on that one.

We walked down the stairs and saw all of the pink decor...and family and friends! I know you're not supposed to have a baby shower for a 2nd, but I think it is still so cool to have had everyone together. Plus, Anni will have some things of her own that weren't hand-me-downs!

Alexi asked who the party was for, and I said for Anni. I explained that sometimes when someone is going to have a baby, friends and family will throw a party for the baby and bring gifts. She leans down to my tummy and explains to Anni that it's for her. : ) She then asks about the bbq, why we're not outside, when she can use her squirt guns and chalk. She moped about that for awhile.

We had a yummy lunch: Psghetti's sandwiches, pasta salad, spinich salad, chips (that was our contribution to the "bbq"), fresh fruit, strawberry oreos (so cute!), cute little "it's a girl" hershey kisses, cookies and cupcakes which were YUMMY.

Alexi helped open the presents. She had a package labeled for her from Grandma K. She opens it, excited that there is something for her, and inside is a onesie and a bib and a few other things. Her expression on her face says it all. Aunt Steffie pipes up that it's the WRONG BOX and she opens the one that's really for her (it was accidental). In her box is a big sister shirt, some picture things, etc. She says, "Yeah, it's cute, but I was kind of hoping for a toy..."

It's tough for a kid to see the new sibling get everything. I have been overly conscious of that, trying to get her things for her "big girl" room too, so she's not feeling left out. And she has her birthday party in a few weeks too, so that will be her day.

Cousin Nan went outside and played with the chalk with her, which cheered her up. By the time we left, she was pretty hyper from the sugar and yummies and was in kind of a mood. I knew she was tired. She was mad because we were "tricked" and no one told us it was a party, and they lied to us about the bbq. She was seriously put off by that!

We got home, Ed was home, and we looked at all of the thoughtful gifts together. Lex was putting things away for me, arranging and rearranging. She played in the baby's room for awhile, even after Ed and I left the room. : )

We all crashed-I guess we needed it. I can *always* use a nap. : )

It was a fun day. I was surprised. I really enjoyed myself. I was feeling so much better than I did at Lexi's (I remember, I was feeling so barfy) and it was neat to share it with Lex too.
