I primed the walls twice, covering over a medium sage color. I tried the pale pink color, which looked white over the walls. Frustrated, I did another 2 coats of white Kilz and we switched to purple paint. It looks so cute!
I also didn't put tarp down while I was priming. I didn't make a mess...that is, until June (mini) walked down the hall and spooked me, causing me to step backwards and knock over the can of primer on the carpet. Trying to get the primer out of the carpet was a lesson in futility. So, as I had originally wanted to do, I ripped up the carpet, exposing the hardwood underneath. Love it. Sure, the floors are weathered like the rest of the house, but much cleaner.
We bought a cute rug for the floor and then focused on Lex's room. We moved the queen bed into her room, and put her twin in Anni's room so I have a place to sit while feeding her. Lex picked out her own bedding (bright pink, OMG, you can see it with your eyes closed), a body pillow. She got a new alarm clock with a night light on it. We moved furniture around. She is loving her BIG bed, even though it takes up more space. I feel better knowing that she's not jealous with all of the things going into the baby's room.
The nursery isn't done yet, though. I have to touch up paint. Put up crib and changing table, new blinds and curtain rod. Hang shelves, etc. But we're getting there. : )
