She knows!

We told Alexi this weekend that she will be a big sister soon. We opted to buy a book on what happens when a new baby comes home. It was written by Dr. Sears, so it's a little too earthy/attachment parenting-y for me, but got the point across. We read the book first and she was pretty meh about it. Then we told her WHY we were reading the book and she perked up. She has questions and will continue to have questions, which is good.
I think she's suspected for awhile. A few weeks ago she and I were lying in bed watching TV. I was wearing a sleep shirt. She asked if my boob was a baby's head and the "pointy thing" the nose. Um, no. But hey, at least they got bigger!
She has asked if the baby can be pooped out. Um, no.
She asked whether it would be a boy or a girl, and I said we'd have to wait. She said we'd know when it was born, long hair for a girl and short hair for a boy. I explained that boys and girls are different; we have different privates. She asked if we were the same, and I said yes, we have the same privates. "And even if it was a baby girl, she'd have the same privates as me?" Yes. "That's just crazy! I just cannot believe it! That's so funny! The same!" I'm going to have to pick up a book on how to explain it better to her. I honestly thought that she'd have known this by being at day care.
Other than that, things are good. I go on Friday for an ultrasound and my glucose tolerance one hour test. I can't wait until the ultrasound to see little "Jar Jar" again. I'm getting nervous, and having to assume everything is going as it should. I'm sure it'll be much better once I start feeling movement, which should be soon.

  1. Little ones are so funny about this stuff.
They get it all eventually. Just in small doses. We have the same Dr. Sears book, but I thought it explained it all pretty nicely.
